Rule of Life

Each year, the Deaconess Anne House community writes and adopts a shared Rule of Life. Like a trellis that supports and guides a vine as it grows and blossoms, the rule of life gives structure to the DAH community and gives expression to the shared values and commitments of the corps members.

The rule is practical. It covers everything from house chores to the cycle of prayer. The rule is adaptable. Every two to three months, the community revisits the rule to amend its contents to better fit their lived reality.

Anchored in the rich Benedictine spiritual tradition, the rule is built on the principles of Stability, Obedience, and Conversion of Life and encourages the corps members to embody the values of giftedness, simplicity, mindfulness, hospitality, and listening.

Below is a great introduction to the rule of life by author and spiritual advisor, Margaret Guenther.
